Both monohulls and catamarans can compete in this exciting offshore class. There are many designs to choose from as this is not a one-design class. It is the evolutionary and developmental class of the sport with cutting-edge technology developed in racing and then taken through to the pleasure market.
This was the original 'modern' offshore racing class that created powerboat racing as we know it today.
Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBS)
RIB racing first started in the UK some fifteen years ago with a group of enthusiasts competing in long distance endurance racing and using RIBs of all different types and sizes.
The sport has come a long way in the intervening years with some classes of RIBs now acheiving speeds of over 80mph.
V24 is a high performance gulled-wing race boat.
The boat is only 24 foot long and weighs 1450kg in race form and has a 320 HP engine. - giving an interesting power to weight ratio of 215 HP per ton.
The V24 runs with a full enclosed canopy and its own safety air supply with the crew sitting side by side secured by a six point safety harness.
These boats run on courses close to the shore providing a visual and loud spectator experience.
These boats are fun, fast and very loud.
OCR is Offshore Circuit Racing.
The racing takes place on short multi lap courses close to shore and therefore highly visible to spectators. Most events have races over two days, e.g. 10 venues, 20 races. The race season normally runs from May until October.
The OCR class often draws comparison to saloon car racing in Motorsport.
Both boats and engines are standard production models and are easily recognisable.
